Social media has helped to create political change for entire countries. We only want to use it to create change in a sport we all love. How hard can that be?
Let’s show the FIA how passionate and resourceful rally fans can be and sort the mess out ourselves.
People power could really change things; real fans doing things their way. There are enough of us who have specialist skills in IT, web development, web design, social media, film making, photography, writing, presenting etc. Let us, the fans, create THE best rally website in the world.
I am happy to donate World Rally Review to form the foundation of this project which could really develop into something. Think live streaming, interactive maps, podcasts, webisodes, on the spot reports from fans, split times, an app, a tablet version of the website and even our very own glossy magazine or book. The opportunities are endless. We can have the very latest videos and photos online before the official outlets have even seen them.
World Rally Review could be the Linux or WordPress of the rally world, an open source rally magazine run by the people. Nobody to tell us what we can and cannot watch or when we can and cannot watch it.
Spread the word on Facebook, Twitter and your favourite forums and let’s take back control of rallying and change things for the better, on our terms.
So who wants to be part of a rally revolution? Or are we all just apathetic and prefer to moan about the problems rather than doing something about it?
e-mail us on revolution@worldrallyreview.com and let us know what you have to offer or what you would like to see.
In the intervening period we have devised a low budget solution to save the WRC Rally Sweden media coverage from slipping into oblivion, the World Rally Review Live Blog.
Are you travelling to Sweden for the rally? Maybe you have friends who are? Even if you aren’t attending the event you can still help by letting us know about any interesting content that we should share with fellow rally fans around the World.
Rally fans around the World want to hear all of your news, see your pictures and watch your videos. You can Tweet them, e-mail them or upload them to YouTube and we’ll publish it all on our Live Blog which will again be running for the duration of the event following a very successful debut with uniquecoverage of Rally Monte Carlo.
If you Tweet just use the hashtag #wrc so that we can find it. If you upload any videos to YouTube send us a quick email to sweden@worldrallyreview.com and include the URL of the video. If you have pictures then you can also email them to us. To make things really easy you can even share links, photos and videos on our Facebook wall.
We would also like to hear from any team media personnel who can also send in pictures, inside information or pure gossip to keep the fans informed of what is happening out in the icy cold of Sweden.
